LiDER envisions a world where individuals are empowered to effectively lead with compassion and resonance.
We believe this is possible through an intentional (re)framing of leadership. By challenging false assumptions of leadership (i.e., leadership rooted in position, power, prestige, and personal reward) and promoting a new construct of leadership—leadership connected to authentic personhood (Who am I? What are my values? What is my vision?) and the purpose with which one leads (How can I engage in good, meaningful work? Where do my personal passions intersect with the pressing needs of my organization or community?)—a new standard of leadership will emerge.
This is how we understand the key components of our vision:
Effective Leadership--Recognizing potential. Asking questions. Inspiring others. Pursuing worthy, progressive change.

This is how we understand the key components of our vision:
Effective Leadership--Recognizing potential. Asking questions. Inspiring others. Pursuing worthy, progressive change.
- Effective leadership is about possibilities. We acknowledge the present condition, stare-down challenges, examine the opportunities, partner with others, and advance change. Leading effectively requires that we engage in inner-work—by cultivating authenticity and a learning disposition—matched with collaborative outer-action that produces healthy change.
- Compassion is purposeful. We balance reflection (moments of pause, stillness, and quiet) with action—so that we can mindfully infuse care, generosity, hope, joy, and love into our own lives, relationships, and work. Leading with compassion ensures that limiting, exclusive and corrosive behaviors give way to opportunities for all to prosper and thrive.
- Resonance is powerful. When we cultivate authentic, self-authored identities of ourself; develop synergistic relationships with others; and tap into the spirit of our work—our chance for success increases exponentially. Leading with resonance stimulates a palpable vibrancy that excites and invites others to join in while providing nourishment over the long-haul.
LiDER's vision can be realized by focusing on three leadership practice areas.
Leadership Development--facilitated through training experiences (e.g., workshops, retreats, conferences, and coaching) for individuals and groups.
Leadership Education--engaged via formal courses designed to assist students in acquiring the knowledge and skills to lead effectively.
Leadership Research--conducted to better understand the impact and effectiveness of leadership practices in the Global South.

LiDER is grounded in and guided by what we consider the three “S’s” of sustainable action.
Systems Thinking--in order to create significant, lasting change, we need to expand our awareness and act from system-wide perspectives.
Strengths-Based--we capitalize on hope, empowerment, and resilience to shift obstacles into opportunites and problems into potentials.
Social Engagement--effective leadership is rooted in healthy relationships. We emphasize "connectivity" so that we can all thrive.
